The launch of Older Peoples Day (OPD), in 2012 was the natalist for the Good Life event. Members of Seniors Forums from across East Sussex came together in the Eastbourne Congress Suite for presentations, entertainment and fun. The event was a great success.
As 2012 was the year of the London Olympics, this had a significant influence on the event.
The Good Life Event has been run by the Eastbourne Seniors Forum (ESF) since 2013, as part of its involvement in OPD activities which are organised nationally under a "Full of Life" banner.
OPD is 1st October nationally, and ESF tries to get as near to this as is appropriate. East Sussex County Council (ESCC) was previously involved in the planning of county events, and in the providing the publicity for them. However, in the last two years ESCC has passed the lead responsibility for this over to the Eastbourne Seniors Forum (ESF) to manage, but has continued its support by providing staff hours to develop the advertising and analyse the results of attendees feedback.
ESSC provides significant support by funding the production of a coloured A5 brochure, and its postal costs. ESSA forums supply pre-addressed envelopes to County Hall for this.
ESSA organises monthly meetings of Forum Representatives, and other interested organisation from March till June, at the end of which the booklet is finalised and printed in August, ready to be circulated to over 10,000 recipients across the county.
This booklet has proved to be the main tool for advertising the events, along with forums own newsletters, local adverts and ESCC radio and news press releases. It contains details of all OPD events being held across the county.
